Chinz

English term derived from an Indian word that literally means "stained". Indicates cotton cloth, with a glossy and polished surface worked in a plain-weave, printed with lively designs or floral motifs. It is also called calanca. "Chintzed" also describes a plain or woven cotton cloth which is made glossy on one side through calendering. Originally it was much used in England for furnishings, it is currently also used in skirts and summer dresses.
