Calendered

Cloth which has undergone calendering. The operation consists in passing the cloth between calenders, rotating, heated cylinders, which heat press the fabric and give it a smooth, flattened appearance. Special effects (marbling or moiré, embossing, etc.) can be obtained if the cylinders are engraved with special designs.
