Cashmere (or kashmir, from the homonymous region)

It is the fibre produced by the goat that lives on the mountains of Himalayas, Tibet and Mongolia. The useful part, second only to the vicuna for fineness and preciousness, comes from the short and fluffy soft coat with which the animal protects itself from winter frost and is collected by combing the goats in spring, producing no more than 120 grams per year. The colour ranges from white to pale yellow-brown. The cloths that are obtained are characteristic for the extraordinary lightness and softness, as well as for the printed designs that are particularly minute, complex and detailed. It can indicate a fabric that is made from 100% cashmere, or a blend of other wool fibres, which mimics the distinctive designs, softness and lightness of the famous Indian shawls.
